Where we came from

Where we came from

Rick grew up in Miami...

... with three sisters. He was spoiled as the only boy in a Cuban family and he loved every second of it. Despite how it might look in some of the pictures to the left, Rick’s sisters are very cool and fashionable (it was the 90’s - everybody dressed that way), and he’s still very close with them today. After college, Rick lived in Philadelphia while he went to business and medical school at UPenn.

Matt is from Long Island...

...and he was the youngest of three boys, so he was always spoiled as the “baby” (and he, too, loved every second of it). Matt’s father was one of thirteen kids, so holidays were always a huge family affair. Although he's lost his blonde locks, he still loves lounging in the pool like his four year old self. After high school, Matt moved to Manhattan to go to Columbia. He stayed in the city for law school, and he's lived there ever since.

How we met

How we met

We met in 2007 on MySpace (before Facebook was cool). After a couple of messages back and forth, we began IM’ing and then quickly switched to talking on the phone. Matt was everything Rick was looking for: handsome, smart, romantic, funny - and Matt felt the same way about Rick - he was the perfect package and Matt swooned when we met. We fell for each other quickly and got married three years later.

When we got engaged, Rick surprised Matt with a hundred reasons to get married. Matt came home to fifty photos of our friends and family hanging on the wall, each with their own reason to get married. Then Matt met Rick at Pier 84, where Rick was waiting with fifty white balloons, each with one of Rick's reasons to get married. Then Rick proposed and we released the balloons over the Hudson River.

This video was one of our favorite parts of the wedding. Instead of doing a traditional dance, we did something a little different to make it fun and memorable.

Life today

Life today

We live on a beautiful, tree lined block in one of the best neighborhoods of Manhattan, with our own private backyard to play in and parks and playgrounds around every corner. We love our city because it's one of the best in the world, with so many famous sites and tons of great activities for kids. Matt is a lawyer at a television network and Rick is an executive at a fun tech company. Our nieces and nephews love coming to visit us at work, and we know that one day our own kids will too!

Family and Friends

We have lots of close family and friends. Our parents, brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends from all walks of life are an important part of our lives. And then there's our puppy, Paddington - he's a sweet terrier that loves to play. Everyone can't wait to welcome and love the new addition to our family!

Our Interests

We like to do a lot of activities: travel, camp, read, cook, watch movies, go to museums and theater, and more. Take a look at the pictures on the left to learn about a few of our favorite things...

Our Letter to You

Our Letter to You

Hello!

We're really excited to start our family. We're both very family oriented guys who, as you can hopefully tell from our site, love each other very much and have a strong network of loving family and friends all around us. We've both always wanted children, and when we each realized we were gay (even though we didn't know each other at the time), one of our only concerns was whether that would affect our family plans for the future. Fortunately, we live in a time and place where being gay doesn't affect our family plans and through surrogacy, we can still have the family we've always dreamed of.

We hope this site has given you a good sense of who we are and what life with us will be like. We're looking forward to having a good relationship with whomever is the right match for us.

Warmly,

Rick & Matt
